Forestry digger catches fire

A FORESTRY digger caught fire in a forestry block in Kanakanaia Valley yesterday.

Te Karaka Fire Service responded at 2pm and Fire and Emergency NZ sent a tanker from Gisborne.

Te Karaka chief fire officer Jamie Simpson said the cause of the fire in the 30 tonne digger was uncertain, but likely mechanical.

It took the crews a couple of hours to get the fire under control, he said.

Nobody was hurt in the incident.
