Team Gisborne Boardriders Club’s day two of the 2022 surfing nationals was a mixed bag of results.

Team captain Magoo (Patrick) Braithwaite advanced to the semifinals of the over-40s, while daughter Asia was knocked out of the under-18 division.

Asia’s campaign continues in the open women’s quarterfinals, where she has managed to miss the “heat of death” with competition front runners and former national champions Paige Hareb and Eva Henderson paired together. Sean Hovell surfed well in the semifinals of the over-30s division but was unable to find the waves needed to advance through to the final.

Several local surfers remain in the mix through the age-grade competitions, with some still to hit the water as the competition enters day three today.
