Close encounters set for premier-grade netball

CLUBmateS clash in premier-grade netball at the YMCA tomorrow morning and it should be a tight game.

Claydens Waikohu (1) and Waikohu (3) meet at 9am.

“There were only two goals in it when they last met, so I am expecting another close contest between those teams,” netball commentator Sherrill Beale said.

Last time the top Waikohu team won it 55-53.

Waikohu (3) may have taken their clubmates by surprise last time. The chances of that happening again would be fairly remote.

“The top team did not play their own game last time they played the third team,” said Waikohu 1 co-coach Cheryl Te Rito.

“The girls didn’t have the consistency they normally have in that game.

“Tomorrow the aim will be to put out a more improved performance,” Te Rito said.

“We have a few injuries but I think we’ll still be OK.

“The players we’ve got should be able to handle it.”

At 10.30am tomorrow F45 High School Old Girls play Tapuae.

“Tapuae had a bad start last time these two teams met and HSOG were out to a lead of 18-2 after just 15 minutes of play at the end of the first quarter,” Beale said.

“Tapuae rallied and had a competitive second half that saw the final result decided by only 11 goals in High School Old Girl’s favour.

“Both teams like to move the ball at speed, and on defence they put pressure on the ball carrier to create turnovers.”

Beale said Tapuae will be determined to start strongly.

‘’I am expecting a competitive game.”

Over the road at Victoria Domain only the seniors will be in action at the courts tomorrow from 9am through to 1pm.
