East Cape areas get heaviest falls
Northern parts of the region got most of the rain from the latest weather system that passed across the region, with the heaviest falls at Oweka on State Highway 35 at the top of East Cape.
The GDC rain gauge at that location recorded 66 millimetres in the past 24 hours.
The other sizeable falls were at places like Waikura Valley (61mm) at the top of the Cape, 61mm at Wharekahika River, 51mm at Karakatuwhero, 45mm at Poroporo and 42mm around Ruatoria.
The numbers diminished further down the Coast.
For example, Te Puia received 21mm, Hikuwai 21 and Tatapouri only 7.5mm.
In the rural areas inland from Gisborne, Ngatapa picked up 21mm, Waerenga-o-Kuri 22mm and the Poverty Bay Flats 16mm.
The rain in Gisborne city ranged from 6mm up to 15.5mm across council rain gauges.
