About-turn on hosting unvaccinated events

A Gisborne café has ended its plans to host “events” for unvaccinated people.

Far East Coffee last week announced it intended to operate with vaccine pass requirements for its cafe, while also hosting daily events for unvaccinated people.

However, Covid-19 Protection Framework guidelines state that in red, ticketed public events cannot happen. Gisborne has been placed in the red stage.

On social media yesterday, Far East Coffee said: “it appears we have made some ripples with our decision to host events having been talked about in the media.

“The result being that events are now no longer allowed in red or orange outside of the passport system.

The post said the café had come up with “version two”.

“From tomorrow (today), we will be offering takeaways to all customers up until Christmas.

“Takeaway food and beverage can operate under retail and as per retail guidelines, passports aren't required.

”We need your support with this. We know takeaways aren't like sitting in but we'd love you to still swing by and maybe take your orders to the beach or to one of our other beautiful locations.”

Far East Coffee declined to comment when contacted by The Herald.
