Santa Claus is coming to town
Many children have probably asked their mums and dads lately if Santa was still going to come to Gisborne this festive season.
The cancellation of the Christmas Parade, its substitute Christmas in the Park event and Santa's Grotto has changed the build-up to Christmas in the district this year.
But do not worry children. The big guy in red is coming.
The Herald has it on very good authority that Mr Claus will be at Gisborne Speedway Club's Eastland Group Raceway on Saturday night as part of the Jukes Carriers fireworks show meeting.
Club president Clyde McGrory said Santa had been in touch and was looking forward to being there.
The club has organised the distribution of crowd numbers around the track to meet Covid-19 health requirements for the meeting.
“We want to give as many parents and children we can the opportunity to see the fireworks, and of course to say hi to Santa.
“We reckon it's important for the children of the city and district to see that Santa's come to town, despite the Covid situation.”
Gates to the speedway will open at 5pm, with racing to start at 6pm.
“We expect to see Santa at about 7pm,” Clyde said.
“The fireworks will be on once it gets dark.”
