Good pasture for new lambs, docking on schedule
Most of the region's new season lambs have arrived now and docking has been well under way on many farms in what has turned out to be a record lambing season for some farmers here.
AgFirst consultant Peter Andrew said a good spring has followed on from a kind winter for lamb birth.
“This has recovered a pretty average scanning result heading into the lambing season.
“The farmer docking results are variable. but some would be having a record high result,” Mr Andrew said.
“With the lamb schedule really high at the moment this is a really good time to have a good lamb crop.”
Mr Andrew said the recent rain had been timely to keep pasture growth going.
“Pastures are really hitting their straps right now which is great news for the new arrivals and their mums.”
