Warning of heavy rain north of Ruatoria
The MetService has issued a heavy rain warning for the part of Gisborne district north of Ruatoria from 5am tomorrow morning to 5pm tomorrow afternoon.
A low pressure system is expected to approach the North Island from the north Tasman Sea today.
The low should then move southeast across the country during tomorrow and Friday, bringing periods of heavy rain and strong winds to parts of the North Island, and also Marlborough Sounds.
“Heavy rain may cause streams and rivers to rise rapidly. Surface flooding and slips are also possible and driving conditions may be hazardous,” the MetService said.
The warning applies to ths ranges of eastern Bay of Plenty and Gisborne north of Ruatoria.
“Expect 70mm to 80mm of rain with peak rates of 15mm/h forecast.”
