Businesses improvising, adapting, overcoming

“Improvise, adapt and overcome”, the unoffical motto of the US Marines, is the approach taken by Gisborne businesses in Level 4 Lockdown as they find ways to operate and service the community.

“It seems that Tairawhiti business has transitioned faster into contactless delivery this lockdown as they've had past experience and have learned what has worked for them,” Gisborne Chamber of Commerce president Belinda Mackay said.

“From what we've seen, some businesses have flipped into contactless mode easily.

“We've seen examples like Vetro being open through Level 4 for groceries, new restaurant Gizzy Globe offering takeaway service when Level 3 starts, Far East have been delivering coffee, new member The Beauty Depot are offering free delivery for all Gisborne orders (plus they've gone national) and I've just finished a Zoom Pilates class with Authentic Pilates.

“It's not the same as being fully open,” Ms Mackay said. “But it all helps.”
