Power out last night after crash into pole
Power went out for much of Gisborne early today when a vehicle crashed into a power pole in Anzac Street.
The driver and passenger sustained minor injuries.
A Fire and Emergency spokesperson said two appliances attended the crash at 12.35am.
The vehicle had left the road and collided with a power pole.
“At around 12.30am a car crashed into a 50kV pole on Anzac Street, seriously damaging the pole and causing a power outage affecting approximately 6500 people,” an Eastland Network spokesperson said.
“We restored power to 2500 people within 25 minutes; power was back on for everyone else within 35 minutes. Our team isolated the pole and then replaced it with a new one in the early hours of this morning.”
Police spoke with the driver to get an understanding of the cause of the crash and at this stage it does not appear any further action was taken.
