Tenant hosting meeting on anti-vaccination
The representative of the owners of the Marina View Apartments in Gisborne does not support an anti-vaccination meeting being held at the building.
But the public meeting is being hosted by a tenant, so it is still planned to go ahead tomorrow.
Flyers circulating in Gisborne this week advertised a “special education event” about the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine organised by anti-mask and anti-vaccination group Voices for Freedom.
Marina View Apartments body corporate chairman Patrick Willock was alerted to the meeting by the Gisborne Herald yesterday afternoon.
“The body corporate doesn't condone the meeting being there, but it's the property of the owner of floor one,” he said.
The owner of the floor declined to comment.
Complaints about a leaflet distributed around the country by the group were upheld by the Advertising Standards Authority in June. The authority found six of eight claims made in the leaflet were unsubstantiated.
The ASA ruled it was in breach of principles including social responsibility, truthful presentation, and rules governing advocacy organisations' communications.
Voices for Freedom co-founder Claire Deeks was number three on Jami-Lee Ross's Advance Party list last election.
