Driver hurt in crash on Coast
A female courier driver was taken to Gisborne Hospital yesterday afternoon after a three-vehicle pile up on State Highway 35 between Tokomaru Bay and Tolaga Bay.
The crash happened just after 2pm and involved the courier van, a 4x4 ute and Suzuki Swift car.
“The courier van rolled three times in the crash, and the woman driving, aged in her 20s, was very lucky not to have been more seriously hurt,” a senior firefighter from the Tolaga Bay volunteer brigade said.
“She suffered a minor head injury.”
The woman was transported to Gisborne Hospital by St John ambulance from Ruatoria.
The senior firefighter said the coast highway remained open while the accident scene was cleared.
The Trust Tairawhiti rescue helicopter was called for, but was stood down before it could get into the air.
