Strong Pasifika support for pop-up vaccine clinic

A pop-up Covid-19 vaccination clinic held yesterday at Te Rau College, Temple Street, proved a success with more than 135 vaccines given over four hours to the Pacific Island community.

Hauora Tairawhiti vaccination programme coordinator Lissette Hayes said. The turnout by Pasifika peoples was “wonderful”.

“They turned up in large numbers — whanau were happy.

“At the end of the day 140 vaccinations were received. The day was a success.

“We would like to thank the Pacific Island Community Trust for bringing the Pacific communities together to fight against Covid-19.”

Anyone in Group 3 are invited to book their vaccinations now and Group 4 will be able to book as of Wednesday, starting with people aged 60 years and over, then those aged 55 and over, from August 11.

Depending on vaccine supply and progress with other age groups, invitations will open up to people over 45 years from mid to late August. People aged 35 and over, can expect to be invited for their vaccination in mid to late September with everyone else being eligible from October.

The Covid Community Vaccination Clinic at 295 Palmerston Road is open Monday to Saturday.

The Poutama Clinic at Gisborne Hospital will operate Monday to Friday, starting from this Wednesday.
