Long-time volunteer firefighter receives UFBA Gold Star service award

Long-time Tolaga Bay volunteer firefighter Dan Maitai received his 25 Year United Fire Brigade Association (UFBA) Gold Star service award at a ceremony in Tolaga Bay.

The esteem in which he is held was evident by the rousing haka performed after he received his award.

A presentation was also made to his wife Fiona Williams for her support of his mahi (work).

Dan has been a part of the Tolaga Bay Volunteer Fire Brigade for close to 30 years. Eight other members of the Tolaga Bay brigade also received awards for their service to the Tolaga Bay community, ranging from three to 20 years.

Gisborne Mayor Rehette Stoltz and former Mayor Meng Foon, now Race Relations Commissioner, attended the celebration.
