Burglaries spark police alert to keep eye out for hatchback

Police have called on residents on the fringes of Gisborne to keep an eye out for a suspicious vehicle they believe could be linked to a series of burglaries and vehicle break-ins.

The incidents have been reported in the past two days in the Matokitoki Valley, at Matawhero and at Makauri.

“It has involved burglary and theft from outbuildings on properties in those areas, and also vehicles broken into,” said Detective Sergeant Danny Kirk.

“We want people to keep an eye out for a silver-coloured Honda Fit hatchback, registration number GTQ275.

“We’re looking into a connection between that vehicle, the people in it, and these recent incidents.”

Det Sgt Kirk said police were reminding people in the city and in rural areas to keep their vehicles locked.
