Call for info about serious crash on SH35
POLICE have appealed for information about the movements of a Toyota sedan without number plates that crashed south of Tolaga Bay on Saturday night.
A 35-year-old Gisborne man suffered serious injuries.
Police were notified about the single vehicle crash on State Highway 35 at about 6.55pm on Saturday night.
“The crash occurred about 3km south of Wharf Road near the Tolaga Bay gorge,” said road policing supervisor Sergeant Dean Plowman.
“As a result of the crash a 35-year-old Gisborne man was taken to hospital by ambulance with serious injuries.”
The man was transferred to Wellington Hospital on Sunday morning for more specialist care.
“He was in a serious condition when transferred,” a Gisborne Hospital spokeswoman said this morning.
The police serious crash unit have been investigating the cause of the crash.
“A 27-year-old man will appear in Gisborne District Court next month in relation to the incident,” Sgt Plowman said.
“We would like to speak to anyone who saw the vehicle, a dark-coloured Toyota sedan with no number plates on the evening of the crash or anyone that stopped immediately afterwards to render assistance, or has information in regards to the crash”.
SH35 was closed for 2-3 hours in the wake of the incident, causing considerable traffic build-up.
