Fatal crash on Lavenham Rd
A person died in a crash near Pakowhai Marae on Lavenham Road last night.
Police, Fire and Emergency NZ and St John Ambulance were called to the crash site at about 8.50pm.
It is not clear if anyone else was in the car, however, a FENZ spokesperson told The Herald an incident report did not mention any other occupants.
No details of the dead person have been released.
An investigation into the crash is under way. is the second death on Lavenham Road in recent weeks.
A 31-year-old man died in hospital after his motorcycle left the road and went into a ditch.
Meanwhile, a motorcyclist from Gisborne was flown to hospital yesterday morning after she came off her bike on State Highway 2 at Whakaki just after 10am.
The woman, in her mid-40s, was flown to hospital in Hastings by the Lowe Corporation Rescue Helicopter from Hawke's Bay.
“She suffered serious injuries to her head and chest in the crash,” a St John Ambulance spokesman said.
She was treated at the scene by ambulance officers from Wairoa before the chopper's arrival.
Police said no other vehicles were involved in the incident.
