Dance for life
A major fundraiser for the Life Education Trust (LET) is swapping boxing gloves for dancing shoes.
Gisborne East Coast and Wairoa LET chairwoman Pat Seymour says the trust has decided to move on from Fight for Life and in June 2020 will introduce Dancing with the Life Education Trust.
“The public and Life Education have thoroughly enjoyed the Fight For Life that has become a significant fundraiser and an great amateur sporting event on the Gisborne calendar.
The organisation yesterday donated boxing gloves and shorts from the fundraiser to the Patu Tahi Boxing Gym as part of a thank you for its help over the years.
“Life Education thanks the many men and women who have participated in the boxing over the seven years we have held the event.
“We also thank the coaches, gyms and trainers and the East Coast Boxing Association.
“Your support, advice and professional oversight made the event the high standard performance that it was here in Gisborne,” Mrs Seymour said.
Mrs Seymour is looking forward to Dancing with Life Education.
“Several trusts outside Gisborne have successfully run this event as their major fundraiser and Gisborne will take on that challenge.”
Life Education trustees will work with Tessa Beattie of Dance Fit in the development of the event. Both partners in this dance show will be amateurs (as opposed to one professional/one amateur in shows like Dancing With The Stars).
“There will be nine or 10 couples dancing nine or 10 different dance styles.
“Later in the year we will be looking out for competitors.
The event will be similar in format (to Fight For Life) with dinner tables and a ‘swept-up’ event at the Events Centre,” she said.
