A leap forward in 1964
I recently had the opportunity to see a video about the installation of the sewage pipeline into the bay in 1964.
I commented to the person who lent it to me about how interesting it was.
He subsequently sent me a link to an article in The Gisborne Herald written at the time of Mr Harold Williams’ death. This reinforced what a leap forward this pipe was in relation to what was here before.

I mention these facts as the front page of Wednesday’s Gisborne Herald talks about future plans for handling overflows.
I came to Gisborne in 1978, so am largely unaware of any background to the pipe and its installation.
