Wainui School erect sign alerting public to penguins
Wainui Beach School has installed a new sign at Wainui Beach to alert the public to the presence of little blue penguins in the area.
The school paid for the sign with $1000 from the Earthwise Action Fund for Enviroschools that supports local initiatives that showcase the kaupapa of working together for a more sustainable future.
Principal Nolian Andrew says the school’s enviroschool philosophy is that “you have an issue, you find out about it and then take social action”.
“I’m really delighted to see the kids so passionate about the environment, empowering them to make a difference and bring a change for the community.”
Pictured with the sign are Wainui pupils from Room 5, from left, Lelani O’Brien 8, Ada Alexander 7, Clem Boyd 9, Emelia Brooker 9 and Jackson Williams 9.
