The NZ Post new headquarters in Gisborne is open and operating.

The new building, at 123 Childers Road, will house 40 staff and has taken 15 months to build.

Postal services operating from the nearly 2000sqm site will include parcel and mail delivery.

The private post office box service can be accessed via Bright Street and counter service (including Card to Call) there will operate from 8am to 5pm.

NZ Post service delivery manager Robyn Devlyn said staff were happy to be in the new premises after construction was delayed due to Covid-19.

“It's a new chapter in Gisborne and NZ Post's history and we are excited to be able to continue to provide an essential service to locals… especially in difficult Covid times.”

The Childers Road build is the latest for NZ Post who rebranded in June this year uniting NZ Post, Pace and CourierPost into one brand.

The exercise is costing $15 million and will take place over a period of three years.

NZ Post is also spending $170 million to establish new processing centres in Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch.

The next new build to open will be the Nelson Operations Centre, which is due to open at the end of this month.

NZ Post previously operated out of its Grey Street building (and has done since the building opened in 1975).
