Gisborne singers duelling in semi-finals

Two Gisborne groups will fight for fame in the semi-finals of Maori Television's 5 Minutes of Fame tonight to stay in the competition and for a share of the $15,000.

Amazing Graces will sing Those Magic Changes by Sha Na Na and Lei Lows will sing Getting Stronger by Adeaze featuring Aaradhna.

Tonight sees the last 16 contestants in a knockout round to see who makes it into the final.

Hosted by Turanga Merito with judges Pere Wihongi and Bella Kalolo, the show has two vocalists compete against each other in one of four categories per episode. The categories are teen, female, male and group. There are eight performances per heat and a total of six heats.

Amazing Graces are up against the Rotorua and Hamilton group Te Ara Pounamu Pukeroa singing ‘I Knew You Were Waiting for Me' by Aretha Franklin and George Michael.

Lei Lows are up against Pedro Sisters from Kaikohe who are singing Emotion, by Destiny's Child.

In the final, eight contestants will compete head-to-head before the top four face off in song in a bid to win the overall title. The category winners and overall title winner will share a prize pool of $15,000.

The show airs tonight at 8.30pm on Maori Television.
