HAPPY FARMERS

The district's pastoral farmers are enjoying the season right now. AgFirst consultant Peter Andrew says the recent rain was not a significant problem. “In fact the rain and warm soil conditions have the pasture growth rates really on the charge. We have some very happy stock that are growing super-fast and putting on tonnes of weight.” Mr Andrew says it is a good time to have saleable weight as farmers have been receiving some great sale prices with lamb almost hitting $10/kg. “So right now farmers are well positioned going into the summer with lots of grass and the first sales for the new season being above budget.”
