Matawhero record for prime ewes

PRIME sheep dominated yesterday’s Matawhero sheep sale, where prices remained strong.

Willows Agriculture Ltd, at Waipaoa, sold two massive prime ewes for $320 each, which must be a record for the Matawhero saleyards. Willows Agriculture Ltd also sold two pens of ewe hoggets, with lambs at foot, their best pen of 10 ewe hoggets and 10 lambs selling for $140, all counted.

RK and L Rhodes sold one large prime lamb for $277.

There was a total of 436 sheep sold.

Store ewes, for fattening, sold from $156 down to $100.

There have been no weaned new season lambs available yet and the grass keeps growing.
