Prices up for store lambs

It was a very buoyant sale at Matawhero yesterday where the average price for store lambs rose $20 to $131.50.

High winter meat schedules are a major factor for this rise.

There were 3575 sheep sent for sale, of which 3308 were store lambs.

Robbie Evans sold one huge, prime, ram lamb for $218, while Avondale Farming Gisborne sold a pen of 36 prime ewes for $180, their second cut of 32 made $150.

Arakihi Station at Tolaga Bay topped the store lamb section with their Wiltshires, 54 ram lambs sold for $158 and 60 ewe lambs made $151.

In the store ewe section Avondale Farming Gisborne sold 130 healthy, five-and-six-year ewes for $169. These freshly shorn ewes had been scanned in lamb and were assessed to have been mated from April 8 to a terminal ram.
