Prices boosted by rain

There were 5830 sheep sold yesterday at the Matawhero saleyards, where recent rain and speculation about strengthening export markets have boosted prices for the lighter store lambs.

The average price paid for store lambs rose $11 to $111.

Values for the small number of prime sheep remain strong, with prime ewes selling up to $170 and prime lambs to $162.

The best price of $147 for a pen of 116 store male lambs went to Te Wera Station.

Tutumatai Station at Ruatoria topped the store ewe lambs, 52 selling for $125.

Waitangi Terrace Station and LMJ P/S at Ruatoria offered a total of 231 store mixed-age ewes, run with ram.

Prices here ranged from $125 up to $147.
