Textiles Alive

For their latest exhibition, four textile artists have set themselves the challenge to focus on creating oversized fabric artworks all presented in their uniquely individual styling. The artists contributing to this fabric fiesta are Irene Smith, Morva Thompson, Lina Marsh and Deb Williams. Tairāwhiti Museum, opening Saturday.

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore

Professor Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) knows the powerful, dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Mads Mikkelsen) is moving to seize control of the wizarding world. Unable to stop him alone, he entrusts magizoologist Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) to lead an intrepid team of wizards and witches. They soon encounter an array of old and new beasts as they clash with Grindelwald’s growing legion of followers. Set in the 1930s, the story leads up to the Wizarding World’s involvement in World War 2 and explores the magical communities in Bhutan, Germany and China, in addition to previously established locations including the United States and the United Kingdom.

Morbius

The Duke

Jujutsu Kaisen 0

Japanese animated dark fantasy film, based on the manga series Jujutsu Kaisen 0, a prequel to the Jujutsu Kaisen manga series, both created by Gege Akutami.

Dog

Two former Army Rangers are paired against their will on a road trip down the US Pacific coast in a race to get to the funeral of a fellow soldier. Briggs (Channing Tatum) and Lulu (played by three Belgian Malinois dogs) eventually find common ground.

Uncharted

Nathan Drake (Tom Holland) and Victor “Sully” Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg) seek the greatest treasure never found. Also stars Sophia Ali, Antonio Banderas and Tati Gabrielle.

Night Raiders

A New Zealand/Canadian co-production set in a 2043 North America where cities are controlled by the military, and children are property of the state. A desperate Cree woman joins an underground band of vigilantes to infiltrate a state children’s academy and get her daughter back. Stars Elle-Maija Tailfeathers and Alex Tarrant.

Helmut Newton: The Bad and the Beautiful

Trailblazing photographer Helmut Newton had a defining impact on fashion and art. Writer-director Gero von Boehm uses interviews with some of the late photographer’s subjects, including Isabella Rossellini, Charlotte Rampling and Catherine Deneuve, to shed light on Newton’s art.

It Snows in Benidorm

Peter is given early retirement from his bank job in Manchester and decides to seek out his brother Daniel in Benidorm, Spain. Daniel owns a nightclub but has vanished. Two women Peter meets cause him to re-examine his life. Stars Timothy Spall, Sarita Choudhury and Ana Torrent.
