Masterclass with Master Crafts
The Gisborne Artists' Society are ending a year of workshops with something a little different.
Following Sandi Hickey's still life workshop last weekend, the Society is hosting master calligrapher Ray Crafts from Tauranga.
“Although it is many years since he gave tuition here in Gisborne, his much acclaimed work will be exhibited along with ceramics by his sister Heather Van Wyk at Tairāwhiti Museum, with an opening on Friday,” said Gisborne Artists' Society president Norman Maclean.
While Crafts is in the region, he has agreed to run a small class on Saturday at Lysnar House. The class costs $60 and will be of interest to anyone wanting to learn the techniques involved with calligraphy.
Over the years Crafts has worked like a Medieval monk and produced exquisite illuminated manuscripts in rich colours incorporating gold leaf. He was commissioned to produce work as a gift to the Queen on her 80th birthday and is recognised throughout the country for his skill.
Applications to be included in this workshop should be made by contacting Kath McLaughlin on firstname.lastname@example.org or phone 867 5366
