Local mothers and babies turned out in force for yesterday’s The Big Latch On, at the HB Williams Memorial Library.
The annual worldwide event is held in the first week of August to promote the health benefits of breastfeeding and normalise breastfeeding as part of everyday life. The get-together attracted 48 mothers, up from 37 last year.
“We had great support from organisations who work with mothers and whanau,” said one of the Gisborne organisers, community lactation consultant Janet McGuinness.
“Thanks to the generosity and support of so many of Tairawhiti’s businesses, every single mother walked away with a prize. I’m so delighted with the turn-out, the dedication of the breastfeeding mothers, and the support of our community,” she said.
