Speed limiters for all trucks
Re: Log falls from truck, Oct 9 story.

No matter how many logs travel each year on the road, or how a log may fall off a truck to hit the road, or what the driving guidelines are when it comes to safety, log trucks are fully responsible for damage, accidents and injuries that may result from their use of public roads.

A good start would be to compel all log trucks to have speed-limiter devices installed (limiting the speed at 90kmh), as they cost only a few hundred dollars a piece. Also, have inspectors check all trucks before they hit the road.

As a road user, I’m actually more afraid of the speed some of these logging trucks are driven at (I’ve seen more than one cutting turns and ending up in front of my car) than hitting a loose log.

Do you agree with a bid to pull bridge jumpers away from unsafe road bridges in the city by building “bombing platforms” for youngsters in safe places along the Turanganui River?
