Heads high, hockey boys
A big thank you to the hard-working team that went away with the Poverty Bay under-13 boys’ hockey team to Whakatane, to play in the McGrath tournament.

The boys were well behaved and great fun to be with. Although they came away with no wins, they didn’t let it get them down. They did score the first goal of the tournament, after all, and were the only team to play on grass at home.

Thanks to all involved. And go the turf! TRACEY

Re: Heads High, Hockey Boys.
Thank you for the lovely letter in regard to the U13 Boys Hockey.
I was/am the Manager for the 2012 U13 Poverty Bay Boys' Hockey Team and I could not have asked for a more fantastic group of kids to take away. These boys came from different backgrounds but this made no difference to them. All too often we find the negative in the kids of today but I was priviledged enough to have so many people come up to me and say what a well behaved, great fun-loving group of boys we had. Everyone from the camp owners at Ohiwa Holiday Park to people attending the tournament and other activities we attended.
The Tauranga team (10-13 year old boys) came up to our boys and told them how impressed they were at how they were improving over the tournament. All other teams attending this tournament play, practice and train on turf all the time, luckily Gisborne Girls' High allowed us to practice on their turf, of which we are truly grateful.
So thank you also to those involved and the wonderful support from the parents and wider families of this great bunch of boys.
