Now, what can we do with track?
Re: Sad day for everyone who believes in the importance of rail, October 3 editorial.

Shipping is obviously the way to go to get our produce to the outside world now that the rail has been mothballed, a new word for “scrapped”.

It was going to happen and when you look at the petition, 10,000 signatures from Gisborne, Wairoa and Hawke’s Bay — it’s not many considering the population of these three areas.

Not to worry, the decision has been made. But will the local producers support any potential increase in shipping? Don’t hold your breath.

So, now that we know, what can we do with that “track” from Gisborne to Napier? What can we do to help our region?

Thinking caps on everyone. Let’s get something moving that will not only enhance our city, but also help slow down the migration of our youth to other centres.

Maybe our council can get in behind a new venture.

Does Central Otago ring a bell with anyone? Or even Hawke’s Bay. I look forward to future letters with ideas.
