Dangerous friendship
Monday, September 24, 2012
Be worried, very worried.
The recent visit from Leon Panetta, US Defence Secretary, scares me and I think should you too.
Our wonderful country is a quiet place in a very unsettled world. Recently the United States has stationed permanent US troops in North Australia, and is anticipating a huge increase from the few who are there currently.
If we allow the US to get a foothold here, mark my word they will never leave.
For what? Allowing our navy into their ports? There are safer ports around the world.
The most disconcerting issue is that if we are seen as compliant with US aggression around the world, we will become a potential — and easy — target for a terrorist attack.
Australia has done that already without looking at the potential consequences.
Let’s see; Vietnam, Iraq Afghanistan — all false wars with hundreds of thousands dead, for what? Potential oil control? Next Iran, Syria?
There is a lot of anger out there towards the US.
Do we want to be associated with that? I think not.
By the way, I was born in the US and moved here because I found a country that does its best to care for everyone in it — even the 47 percent the US candidate for president, Romney, says he has no time for. Shame on him.
I am proud to be a Kiwi.
