Encouraging errant vandals
Re: Defending freedom, rights — Sept 15 letter.

Manu Caddie as a voice of the anti-Waihopai surveillance base movement encourages these errant vandals.

Peace is not maintained by unarmed hippies, but the military. Neither is it the United States, but Mr Caddie and his peaceniks who are hostile to a benevolent superpower: the only country with the resources to destroy vile imperialism in the Pacific and Nazi tyranny in Western Europe, whose “dominance” very much made for our prosperity and the freedoms of the postwar era.

The US was attacked notably on September 11, 2001 by jihadis, placing us again in a pre-war era where these installations help maintain our security in a less stable world.

Toppling Saddam was inevitable after 9/11, whether sanctioned or not by the UN — whose Resolution 1973 encouraged fantasy in Libya, leading to the factional mess there and in Syria today.
