Teams epitomise community spirit
A big ups to the Poverty Bay under-13 rugby team and Gisborne Boys’ High School colts rugby team for lending a free hand at the recent Kaiti Mall clean up.

You epitomise what is sadly lacking among many of us in Gisborne, and that is community spirit. To know that what goes around comes around.

All too often, sporting sides look for funding and sponsorship — and there is nothing wrong with that. As we know, being involved in sport is good for our tamariki and it also comes at a cost — our isolation often means a further added financial burden.

But what better way to get that reciprocated support for funding, when the community can see a sporting team lending a helping hand in the community.

You guys rock. What further impressed me was that after working in the pouring rain, you went straight to rugby practice. I will definitely be keeping an eye on you boys in the future. You have got what it takes — that winning attitude. A big thanks also to the coaches and parents who support these kids.

To the people of Gisborne, don’t forget these teams — they are worthy of our support.
