Referee had a shocker
Tuesday, August 07, 2012
As a dedicated rugby fanatic, I applaud fair play, fair competition and fair refereeing. What I saw on Saturday, August 4, when Gisborne Boys’ High played Hamilton Boys’ was, in my eyes, pathetic refereeing.
Disallowing an obvious try — even the touchy saw it; not calling rucks; penalising Gizzy for taking the ball while still on their feet x4, penalising Gizzy for pulling the scrum down even though they had forward movement x6; obvious knock-ons, countless.
Even the touch judges, in my opinion, were just there for the cameras. Shameless.
Hamilton Boys’ is a brilliantly-coached team that deserve fair treatment as well, not to be handed the game by a blind referee.
All these boys are our future and need nurturing with quality, fair refereeing.
