Traffic and fracking risk on our doorstep
I have read many articles regarding fracking up the Kanakanaia, for and against, and there is nothing in them that sits right with me.

Mr Freeman was quoted saying “to install a well pad was a low-level impact activity” but that activity will impact my property as up to 60 trucks go past my letterbox to the well pad.

If TAG Oil find anything and fracking is used then each frack will take up to 1000 truck trips. Apart from the other worries — the impact on my spring water, surrounding land contamination and the price value of my property —there will be no advantages for the community. Few if any jobs will be created.

The GDC has approved this first resource consent, even with a petition strongly opposing it. They will always do what they want.

Do these councillors want that traffic past their house and all the environmental risks at their doorstep?

I think if you polled the residents of Te Karaka and the Kanakanaia Valley you would find the majority opposed.

Apache states a one-in-five chance of finding anything. I really hope they don’t, so we can enjoy our little piece of paradise that we work hard to keep.

KANAKANAIA RESIDENT
