Inaction on pool complex ‘a thoughtless disservice’
“The proposed Olympic Pool Complex redevelopment is unlikely to get under way unless and until its projected cost is reduced.” (January 7 editorial.)
Year after year the council has escalated the cost by delaying until inflation has had its way. Money is spent on new project after new project, while the community facility with the highest attendance crumbles. This has been a thoughtless disservice to the community.
Every week during school terms, busloads of children arrive to learn to swim and enjoy water activities.
Swimming and aqua-aerobics are good exercise for seniors with breathing problems.
Gisborne has the highest child asthma rate in New Zealand. People with asthma are advised to avoid chlorine.
The least the council could do is fund replacement of the antiquated toxic disinfection system with a non-toxic one now.
