Terrier Team: A wonderful success story

The Terrier Racing Against Time Dinner, raising money for breast cancer and held at the Showgrounds Park Event Centre on Saturday, November 9 was an inspiring occasion that showcased Gisborne and the East Coast at its best.

All money raised goes directly to support and help women in the Gisborne East Coast region who have breast cancer.

The dinner was very special. Somehow the terrier committee organised the oldest prize in international sport, the America’s Cup, to be centre stage. MC Graeme Williams and auctioneer Neville Clark were outstanding. Irreverent, current, relevant and fun. The Best. The background to how the terrier team was established, what they do every year to innovate, and the amount of money raised make for a compelling story. In 14 years, they have raised in excess of $350,000 and all of the funds raised have gone to women with breast cancer. No one clips the ticket. How often have we heard the comment “that’s a good idea”? But nothing happens. The terrier women picked up on an idea, took it on and with a lot of hard work have made it a wonderful success story. Behind these good women are good men who make an art form of staying in the background. Gisborne has an outstanding group contributing and giving back to their community in a significant way.
