Native tree might last longer than pear did

Opinion Piece
Letter

Last Sunday morning I noticed that the ornamental, flowering pear tree in Palmerston Road had vanished, with only a spikey stump left behind.

I let Gisborne District Council know on Monday morning of its disappearance.

The GDC could consider replacing the exotic pear tree with a New Zealand native tree which may survive longer than the few months the pear tree was planted.

Fortunately a “partridge” was not disturbed, because Sunday was not the “First Day of Christmas”.
