What is happening in this country, with a knee-jerk reaction to the name of the Crusaders rugby team?
The Crusaders name was chosen to reflect the crusading nature of Canterbury rugby. Crusaders recalled the English heritage of the city of Christchurch.
What happened in Christchurch is a shocking thing, perpetrated by somebody who wasn’t from this country. Let everybody take a little breath and think about the decisions we make in the heat of the moment.
This is a rugby team. They have held this name since the start of the Super Rugby competition in 1996 and have won nine titles.
What next? Change the name of Christ’s Church?
