Golden grins for triathletes

The NZ mixed sprint triathlon relay team celebrate a big step to the 2020 Olympics after beating the world’s best at Edmonton, Canada yesterday.

Hayden Wilde, Nicole Van der Kaay, Gisborne’s Tayler Reid and Ainsley Thorpe bettered a fourth place at the recent mixed relay world championships by scoring a come-from-behind gold medal and valuable points for third overall in the 2019 series.

Three more qualifying races lie ahead to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics and the young team Kiwi are on track.

Reid was 22nd in the men’s individual race on Sunday after going into the run with the leaders. Wilde was fourth.
