Firefighters feel the heat at tournament

GOLF

The irony of playing golf on a day where the mercury passed 35 degrees was not lost on those who teed up in the East Coast Fire Brigades tournament.

They have battled far hotter, but firefighters in the field still felt the burn of summer at Electrinet Park.

Some matched the heat in their scoring.

In the firefighters section, Tamanui Hill won the net with 67, Kelly Humphries the stableford with 43 points and Rotorua's Ray Shields the gross with 4-over 76.

The brigade team-of-two title was won by Napier's Brent Single and Geoff Ramsay while Te Araroa husband and wife Dick and Aomihi Cook and Doreen Goldsmith were the top brigade team of three.

Other results — Gross: Peter Bremner (men's A section), Peter Ngarimu (B section), Gary Cunningham (C section), Maria Wesche (women).

Net: B Huhu (men's A section), Doug Coulter (B section), Geoff Ramsay (C section), Marg Tuapawa (women).

Stableford: Ben Cameron (A section), Jim Devery (B section), Isaac Ruru (C section), Hiria McClutchie (women).
