Road temperatures hit 57 degrees
Water carts are on standby to cool off the region's highways following yesterday's sweltering weather.
Waka Kotahi- NZTA senior network and journey manager Helen Harris said road temperatures hit 57 degrees yesterday but no problems had been reported.
“While there are no major issues currently being experienced on the network, our crews are monitoring road surfaces and will be ready to deploy water carts or add chipseal to absorb the bitumen if necessary.
“We may also impose temporary speed limits if necessary.
“We advise road users to take care, stick to the speed limits and drive to the conditions,” Ms Harris said.
“If people do see spots of bitumen on their cars, this can be cleaned off with kerosene or baby oil.”
