Let the music play

Restrictions around Covid 19 mean this year’s Gisborne International Music Competition features only New Zealand artists, although some have returned from overseas, and quarantined, to participate.

“This year’s GIMC could be likened to the first-ever New Zealand championship for classical musicians,” says GIMC manager Mark La Roche.

“It’s going to be a fascinating, unique and very special contest.”

The first rounds continue at the War Memorial Theatre today and tomorrow.

The semifinal is on Friday and the final on Saturday. Admission is free.
