Incendiary device thrown at garage
Police have launched an arson inquiry after an incendiary device, comparable to a molotov cocktail, was thrown at the garage of a property in the Sterling Park subdivision off Back Ormond Road last night.
The incident happened just before midnight and police have appealed for information.
“A plastic container with some sort of accelerant in it was thrown at the garage, bounced off the wall and ignited,” a senior firefighter said. “The people in the house were alerted by their dog barking and went to investigate.
“Fortunately the burning accelerant went out before it could take hold.”
The senior firefighter said there was some flash flame damage and blistering to a wall of the garage.
“It was out when we arrived.”
Police this morning said the occupants were shocked by what had happened.
“We want to hear from anyone who was in that area of the city last night and who may have noticed suspicious activity in the Sterling Park area.”
