Multiple cars spin out in black ice on Whareratas
Black ice resulted in crashes on State Highway 2 in the Whareratas yesterday morning, with one driver suffering a broken arm.
The ice was a particular problem near the Wharerata summit.
“We had reports of multiple vehicles spinning out in the black ice conditions,” police said.
“In two cases vehicles left the road and crashed into the roadside ditch.
“A person in one of those cars suffered a broken arm.”
In the other case, a first responder who attended said it was one of the worst crashes they had seen in which no one was injured.
■ A MOTORCYCLIST was injured in a crash that also involved a truck on State Highway 35, south of Tikitiki, this morning.
Emergency services were notified at around 10am. Ruatoria St John ambulance and police attended.
“The bike rider, a man, suffered moderate injuries in the crash,” a St John spokesman said.
He was transported to Gisborne Hospital for treatment.
