No arrests yet from Wairoa gang brawl

Wairoa police continue to investigate the cause of a large gang confrontation in the township on Tuesday afternoon.

Up to 15 rival gang members were involved in a fight at the corner of Somerville and Carroll Streets in Wairoa at around 1pm that day.

Weapons were involved in the altercation from which one person needed hospital treatment.

“A male gang member sustained some injuries in the fight that required treatment in Wairoa Hospital,” police said.

He was later discharged.

“We are still inquiring into what occurred and what sparked the altercation.”

No arrests have been made.
