Hurt in dog attack

A woman suffered a minor bite wound when she went to protect her dog that had been set upon by two other dogs near the Botanical Gardens, on Wednesday.

The incident happened mid-afternoon and the woman had to take her injured pet to a veterinarian for treatment.

While she was there St John ambulance were called and the crew checked her over.

“'She had a superficial bite wound on one of her hands, suffered when she stepped in to protect her dog,” an ambulance officer said.

“She was shaken up by what had happened, but was otherwise OK. She did not need treatment for the wound.”

The small dog attacked remains at the veterinarian's it was taken to, receiving treatment for its injuries.

    Heard about this from out of town. A shocking attack by pit bulls on a small family pet. I hope the council do the right thing and ensure that the attacking animals are destroyed and the owner(s) are held to account.
