Call for calm
Police have appealed for calm at supermarkets and the like today ahead of the alert level 4 Covid-19 lockdown tonight after they were called to an altercation at Pak'nSave this morning.
They were called at around 7.30am by the supermarket after a verbal altercation between a staff member and a male customer.
“The man was spoken to by police but was not arrested,” a police spokesman said.
“We appeal to the public to stay calm and patient at this difficult time. There is plenty of food and other household necessities available.
“We are regularly visiting supermarkets to monitor behaviour but would point out we have a lot of other work to do.
“It's up to everyone to act responsibly and show consideration for each other.”
